Agenda

8:00 am Registration Opens—coffee & pastries sponsored by Berry’s Greenhouse

8:30 am Welcome & History of Berry’s Greenhouses, Inc.—Berry’s Greenhouses, Inc. is a family owned wholesale grower and distributor of plants & other quality horticultural products and supplies. Richard and Helaine Berry started the business in 1990 and last year their daughter Emily joined the team. The Berry’s continue to grow and diversify the company and product line offered with a talented team of co-workers including PJ Molloy who has led the team for over 18 years.

9:00 am Train Tour of Belkin Lookout Farm—Belkin Family Lookout Farm, established in 1651, is one of the oldest continuously working farms in the United States. The farm is located less than 20 miles from Boston in Historic South Natick, on 180 exquisite acres with over 60,000 fruit trees.

We will enjoy a narrated train ride through the farm and then embark on a walking tour back to Berry’s Greenhouse via the orchards with Stockbridge School of Agriculture Director Wes Autio. Learn the physiology of fruiting trees, discuss the unique method of espalier pruning, discuss ways to enhance fruit production and other interesting facts for creating and maintaining a home orchard.

11:30 am Boxed Lunch & Recognition of New MCHs—A boxed lunch is included with registration.

12:00 pm Plant Geek...“Foliage and Flowering”—Join the Berry’s team as we expand our plant knowledge touring their greenhouse operations. Make plans for fall plantings with their fall crops, view plants in propagation, as well as an extensive collection of Echeverias, crassulas, and 40 other varieties of succulents.

1:00 pm Container Gardening: Great opportunities in a fast growing segment of our industry—The Team at Berry’s Greenhouse will showcase tropicals, citrus, shade loving plants, annuals, as well as evergreens in containers. Discuss steps for successful container gardening, ongoing care and the wintering over of plants for your clients.

2:00 pm Adjourn—Time to revisit the greenhouse where all attendees will be offered wholesale pricing for any purchases. We invite you to continue networking. Please note that 2 MCH credits will be awarded for full event attendance of this program.
